Rice Vada

Post No.150

Here is a crunchy vada recipe to use as evening snack. It can be served with chutney or sambar. This is my grand mothers recipe and I thought to share it in my blog.

½ cup raw rice

½ cup Idli rice

¼ cup urad dal

3 green chillies finely chopped

1 onion finely chopped

1piece of chopped ginger

1 tsp crushed black pepper

Few curry leaves or coriander leaves chopped

1 tsp cumin seed

Salt to taste

Oil for frying

Wash the dal and rice several times and soak for 2 to 3 hours.

Grind the soaked dal  and rice to a coarse and thick batter with little water.

Add chopped green chillies, onion, ginger, crushed black pepper, cumin seeds, curry leaves and salt. Mix it well.

Heat the oil in a frying pan in medium flame.

Wet your palms and take a lemon size batter and make a hole in the center and slide it into the hot oil.

Fry on both sides  in medium flame till it becomes golden  brown  in colour.

Transfer the vada on a kitchen tissue to remove excess oil.

Serve the rice vada immediately with chutney or sambar.
