Post No.110
After Karnataka we are traveling to the neighbouring state Kerala to taste its signature dishes. Kerala god’s own country doesn’t fail to delight people when it comes to yummy food ! Today I am posting my all time favourite tea time snack -Banana fritters or Pazham pori. A tea time snack of Kerala which is made with ripe Kerala bananas or Nendra Pazham dipped in a creamy batter and deep fried. Crispy and hot pazham pori with tea or coffee is one of the most popular combo in Kerala.
Ingredients
1 Ripe Kerala Banana/Nendra Pazham
1 cup Maida/All purpose flour
1/3 cup of sugar
¼ cup rice flour
A pinch of baking soda
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp turmeric powder
¾ cup of water
Method
Peel the banana. Then slice them into half. Again Slice each piece vertically into 4 or 5 pieces.
Add maida, rice flour. sugar, turmeric powder, salt and baking soda to a blender.
Then add water. Blend it into a smooth batter. The consistency of the batter must be slightly thick so that it coats the banana slices well. I used nearly ¾ cup of water. Depending on the type of flour you can add less or more water. When done transfer it into a bowl.
Heat oil in a pan. When the oil become hot dip each banana slice in the batter and drop it into the hot oil.
When one side is cooked then turn gently and fry the other side till light golden brown.
Drain it to a paper towel and Serve pazham pori with a cup of hot tea.
