Broken wheat upma recipe is easy and quick to make, making it a very common breakfast of South India. Green peas give a unique taste to this upma. I prepared this with frozen green peas. A bowl of freshly cooked wheat rava upma is one of the healthiest and tastiest option for diabetic and for weight loss. It is high in fiber and has a low glycemic index.
Ingredients
1 cup Wheat Rava
1 chopped onion
1tbsp chopped ginger
3 chopped green chillies
½ cup green peas
¾ tsp Mustard seed
2 tsp Urad dal
2 tbsp oil
1 sprig curry leaves
3 cups water
Salt as needed
1 tsp Ghee(optional)
Method
Heat oil in a pan and temper with mustard and urad dal.
Add curry leaves, green chillies, chopped onion and chopped ginger and fry till onion turns transparent.
Add green peas and fry for two minutes in a medium flame.
Add water and salt. Bring to Boil
After the water boils add wheat rava little by little and stir well.
Let it boil in high flame until the water content reduces.
Now simmer the flame to low and cook covered for 10 minutes or till all the water is absorbed
At this stage you can add 1 tsp of ghee to enhance the flavour
Serve hot with chutney.
